Xavier Hicks suspended indefinitely

New WSU Head Coach Paul Wulff announced Friday that safety Xavier Hicks has been suspended for his role in an alleged incident with a teammate two weeks ago.

Hicks, 21, was arrested Jan. 10 for allegedly placing rubbing alcohol inside roommate Grady Maxwell’s contact lens case, Pullman Police Cmdr. Chris Tennant said. Hicks was charged with attempted second-degree assault.

Tennant said there was a disagreement regarding money with Maxwell, a freshman offensive lineman, according to the Moscow-Pullman Daily News. Maxwell noticed his contacts were larger than normal. He called police after 1 p.m.

Maxwell did not put the contacts in his eyes.

Police responded to the residence on NE Terre View Drive and arrested Hicks. Hicks was released without bail and the case was forwarded to the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office.

In other football news, Wulff also announced Friday that former punter Darryl Blunt will not be returning to the program.

Howie Stalwick’s article in The Olympian broke the news of the announcements.

Evergreen staff member Andy Jones contributed to this report.
