Fresh, innovative changes ahead Spring 2007 editor-in chief welcomes readers with a look at what's new. The Daily Evergreen With the new year comes a new Daily Evergreen. Last semester, we started a push to be a leader in the journalism industry – an industry undergoing a lot of change as the Internet steals readers and income. Newspapers are producing online multimedia to enhance their Web coverage, and the Evergreen is following right along the cutting edge. Throughout the fall, we put football highlights and post-game interviews online, and produced videos for the Web site and our Behind the Press and Editorial blogs. Now we’re doing more. Many articles will come with sound bites. Many stories will be driven by video. Many photo shoots will turn into narrated slide shows. And most our news stories will be available online before our print product even hits news stands. These are just some of the things the Evergreen is doing to keep you more deeply connected to your community – whether that be WSU, Pullman, Moscow, Colfax or all of the above. So keep an eye on www.dailyevergreen.com as we give you continuous news coverage. We’ll have halftime and post-game reports of basketball games. We’ll tell you about events as they happen on Glenn Terrell Mall. We’ll update you on car crashes that could hold you up when you’re driving across town. And that’s just on the Web. Our weekly alternative print publication, MiX, will get more play on Fridays. You can find the area’s hottest events and concerts, hear about local artists and musicians, and read a CD review to see if you should spend $9.99 for that album you’re eyeing on iTunes. We’re also bolstering our investigative reporting to keep an eye on the university, city government and businesses. Pick up your free Evergreen on your way to class or when you’re around town. You never know when you’ll want to kill some time with our newest weekly feature: sudoku. |
