The Evergreen is here to serve the students
Opportunities for everyone to partcipate

It’s hard to believe, but here we are – a new semester, a new year.

To all the incoming freshmen and transfer students reading the paper for the first time, welcome to WSU and I hope you enjoy reading our newspaper each day.

The staff puts countless hours into trying to make the paper the best it can be. At The Daily Evergreen, we strive to be the voice of the students, to cover not only the bad news but also triumphs and achievements. We hope to be a resource for the students, a place where you can go to get the information you need.

For those of you returning to Pullman, you may notice a few changes, not only on campus but at the paper as well.

We have a new Web site and are working toward allowing comments on our online stories. You should see an increased focus on multimedia projects like feature videos and photo slide shows to complement our print stories. Our print product has slimmed down a bit, but we make up for it with an extra inch in height.

The important things about the paper will remain the same. The door to the newsroom is always open. Feel free to stop by if you have a story idea or want to share feedback about the work we do. We are also always hiring. If you’re interested in writing for the paper, doing photography or working on multimedia projects, stop by Murrow East 122 for an application and more information.

With the opening of the CUB and continuing changes under President Elson S. Floyd’s leadership, there’s going to be a lot that we’re trying to fit in the pages of our paper. We’ll do our best to make sure the content we use to fill those pages is serving the students. The Daily Evergreen is committed to accuracy. If you notice a mistake in one of our stories, let us know and we’ll run a correction.

In addition, the door to my office is open. I will do my best to be available to answer questions, listen to comments and respond to concerns. Call me at 509-335-3194 or send me an e-mail at editor@dailyevergreen.com. I will also be continuing the tradition of lunch with the editor beginning at 1:30 p.m. next Tuesday, Sept. 2 in The Bookie Starbucks. The lunches will continue each Monday from noon to 1 p.m.

I encourage you to pick up a copy of The Daily Evergreen every day. As the student newspaper, it’s put together by students for students and it’s the best way to stay informed about issues central to WSU.
