WSU football suspends Lobbestael for MIP

The Washington State University football program suspended redshirt freshman quarterback Marshall T. Lobbestael indefinitely on Monday.

Lobbestael, 19, was arrested for minor in possession Sunday morning.

Pullman Police Cmdr. Chris Tennant said the police found Lobbestael passed out in a Dodge pickup parked in front of the Pullman Police Department.

"He was slumped over with a grocery bag of vomit between his feet," Tennant said. A little past midnight on Saturday, the Pullman Police spotted Lobbestael carrying an unconscious woman on College Hill, who was arrested for an MIP.

Lobbestael was arrested about an hour later at 1:24 a.m.

Tennant said it is not yet clear what happened during the period between the two events.

Most MIPs result in a fine of $425, though the penalty is at the judge's discretion, Tennant said.

Lobbestael appeared in five games during the 2008 season, throwing for four touchdowns and four interceptions. He led the team in quarterback efficiency and is a candidate to start next season, despite injuring his knee in October.
