Football suspends Lobbestael The quarterback was seen carrying an unconscious woman on Saturday on College Hill.
The Daily Evergreen Published: 02/24/2009 The WSU football program suspended redshirt freshman quarterback Marshall T. Lobbestael indefinitely on Monday. Lobbestael, 19, was arrested for minor in possession Sunday morning. Pullman Police Cmdr. Chris Tennant said the police found Lobbestael passed out in a Dodge pickup parked in front of the Pullman Police Department. “He was slumped over with a grocery bag of vomit between his feet,” Tennant said. A little past midnight on Saturday, the Pullman Police spotted Lobbestael carrying an unconscious woman on College Hill. The woman was arrested for an MIP. Lobbestael was arrested about an hour later at 1:24 a.m. Tennant said it is not yet clear what happened during the period between the two events. Most MIPs result in a fine of $425, though the penalty is at the judge’s discretion, Tennant said. Lobbestael threw for four touchdowns and four interceptions during the 2008 season. He won Pac-10 Player of the Week after completing 9-of-12 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions in the Cougars’ 48-9 victory over Portland State University on Sept. 20. The 6-foot-3, 199 pound quarterback from Oak Harbor, who began the season third on the Cougars’ depth chart, appeared in five games before injuring his knee during the Cougar’s matchup against Oregon State University on Oct. 11. He suffered a torn ACL and MCL. Though the recovery is expected to last nine months, Lobbestael is a candidate to start next season.
