The Holland and Terrell Libraries were closed from about 8:30 to 9 a.m. Monday morning as firefighters investigated the source of smoke coming from an elevator shaft. The commander on scene, Capt. Scott Thompson, said the fire department was dispatched at 8:32 a.m. on Monday and responded to smoke coming from the shaft. He said a smoking belt caused the incident.
Carol Robinson, finance administrator for the library, said the smoke was coming from the service elevator located between the library and the CUB. "It's not the public elevator, so it should have no impact to the public," she said. The library was reopened shortly after 9 a.m. as fire crews were leaving the scene.
