Thetas get ready to Rock the CASA Kappa Alpha Theta’s upcoming concert performers include Cassie Corelle and Sight vs. Sound. The Daily Evergreen Published: 09/25/2009 Every year, the WSU chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta hosts a philanthropic event called Rock the CASA. It is a concert to raise money for Whitman County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates. “We are Whitman County CASA’s No. 1 donor. That is something we are proud of,” Kappa Alpha Theta president Hillary Hadland said. “This is a program that helps children going through the court system. It helps them live a more comfortable life. The money that we donate goes to summer camps and senior pictures, anything to make their life easier.” CASA’s mission is to represent neglected and abused children in court. The sorority has been focused on the work of CASA since 1989. These women volunteer in local offices to make toys and other items for the children. “This will be our second year hosting Rock the CASA, and we hope to raise over $7,000,” Kappa Alpha Theta philanthropy chair Gabi Barbosa-Rodriguez said. “Last year we reached this amount, and we only hope to go up from there. The money that we raise will go to CASA foundations across the U.S., primarily in Washington and Whitman County. The money will be dispersed among children, so that they can buy things that would otherwise be out of their budget” Some performers include Cassie Corelle, All Hands Point Up, Sight vs. Sound and Brett Hite. “We are permitting re-entry, so there’s no pressure to stay for the entire four hours, though the bands are definitely worth it,” Barbosa-Rodriguez said. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased by any sorority member or at the concert. “Attendees can relax and socialize with friends, check out some of the bands’ merchandise or even talk to them,” said Kappa Alpha Theta philanthropy chair Hannah Fanslow said. “All the women of our chapter will be there, so you can learn more about CASA and how to help the kids. We will also be giving out fun prizes in between band sets.” |
