SEB director discusses job SEB Director Renae Dahlquist reveals where she grew up and the work it takes to run the SEB.
The Daily Evergreen Published: 10/08/2009 Senior Renae Dahlquist is no ordinary Coug. Born and raised in Everson, a small town about 30 minutes north of Bellingham, Renae has always pursued her dreams. Since seventh grade, she has plunged into the deep end, taking positions in event planning and leadership. While studying for a double major in communication and English, Dahlquist somehow manages to find enough time to hold a spot as director of the Student Entertainment Board. Her relationship with SEB didn’t take flight until her sophomore year. After a year off, she realized how much she missed being involved. She began attending the organization’s meetings. From there, it was love at first sight. For Dahlquist, a lot of hours go into the events, but it’s all about watching others enjoy the hard work. "That is the true payoff behind her passion," she said. Out of all the years she has been involved with the SEB, last year’s Springfest really hit home for her. “It was like my baby for eight months, and to see that come together was amazing for me," she said. Dahlquist currently assists the SEB focus on Homecoming, as the semester is rapidly passing and the deadline is approaching. There are many upcoming events such as visits from Dr. Drew and Gym Class Heroes, which she hopes to sell out. Though rewarding, her job is not all play. Dahlquist oversees the organization’s budget, which totals $380,000. Dahlquist makes sure the individual programmers have their events in order. She attends daily meetings to guarantee the company is running smoothly and occasionally jumps on Facebook and answers some e-mails. “Definitely get involved with SEB prior to applying for the job,” Dahlquist said. "Understanding the interworking of the company makes the process easier." With an upbeat, vibrant personality and soaring leadership skills, Dahlquist brings a lot of spunk to the table but still manages to remain honest. “She’s not going to sugarcoat it and will fight for something she believes in,” said Rachelle Rozsonits, Dahlquist's roommate and co-worker. Rozsonits also shed some light on Dahlquist's position as director of the SEB. “She genuinely cares about all of her friends and staff," she said. "It doesn’t feel like she’s anyone’s boss, which makes it a much more comfortable atmosphere when we have a problem and need her help.” UPCOMING EVENTS: Open Mic Afternoon: Oct. 13 in CUB Lair from 1 to 2 p.m. Street Team Meeting: Oct. 14 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Butch's Den Gym Class Heroes: Oct. 18 in CUB Senior Ballroom, tickets available at the Cougar Card Center.
