Bestselling author to visit Pullman
Seattle author Garth Stein will be available to sign copies of his book Wednesday evening.

The Neill Public Library will host New York Times bestselling author Garth Stein at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night. Stein will read from and sign copies of his award-winning novel, “The Art of Racing in the Rain.” All ages are welcome.

“The Art of Racing in the Rain” is told through the eyes of a mutt named Enzo, who understands the nature of humanity better than most people. The dog takes readers through a touching tale of love, tragedy, redemption and danger. The novel paints a realistic picture into the minds of those who have ever wondered what kinds of things dogs think about.

Lioubov Baugh, assistant store manager at The Bookie, Too!, said she read the book over the summer and still often thinks about its message. “This book is very gentle, very elegant," she said. "It teaches us to be kind to others, to be a better person."

Stein was raised in Seattle. He earned a master's of fine arts in film from Columbia University, and he lived in New York City for 18 years. Before publishing novels, he worked as a documentary filmmaker and directed, produced, or co-produced several award-winning films. He now resides in Seattle with his wife, three sons and their dog.

Stein has received praise for his novel from other renowned authors including Sara Gruen, author of “Water for Elephants” and Wally Lamb, author of “She’s Come Undone” and “I Know this Much is True.” Baugh said “The Art of Racing in the Rain” has something to offer everyone, because it's funny, sad and thrilling at times.

“Everybody should read this book, and all ages, students and faculty members should attend his reading," she said. "There’s no other book like this."
