Soccer defeats both Ducks and Beavers
Junior goalkeeper Meghan Berlingo made six saves to help preserve the two shutouts.

The WSU soccer team (12-4-1, 5-1-1 Pac-10) swept No. 25 Oregon State on Friday and the Oregon Ducks on Sunday in WSU’s last road trip of the regular season.

The Cougars took down the Ducks 2-0 behind two goals spread apart by only 1:27.

Sophomore defender Ali Fenter opened up the scoring after a foul by Oregon’s Taylor Jones. Sophomore midfielder Jacquelyn Roth set up Fenter’s goal on a set piece from 20 yards out.

Senior forward Kiersten Dallstream played a ball though the Oregon defense to senior midfielder Carly Dobratz, who finished at the far post to end the scoring.

Despite the 2-0 victory for WSU, the Ducks outshot the Cougars 10-9. WSU had a 2-1 edge in corner kicks. The foul by Jones resulted in the only yellow card of the match.

Junior goalkeeper Meghan Berlingo had to make three saves for the Cougars on her way to her sixth shutout of the year.

The Cougars got the weekend started with a 1-0 win over the Oregon State Beavers in Corvallis, Ore.

Freshman forward Brandi Vega scored with just more than five minutes until halftime for the game’s only goal. Vega took a shot after Dallstream’s shot hit off the post and bounced back to Vega.

The Cougars just missed another scoring opportunity in the 68th minute after a shot by Roth hit the crossbar.

Berlingo was able to continue to add to her stellar season, coming up with another three saves in the game.

WSU controlled most of the match with a 12-6 advantage on shots and a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks. OSU had nine fouls compared to five by WSU.
