Police report local criminal activities This weekend, a man was hit by a pickup truck and a household was hit by two separate crimes.
Briana Alzola The Daily Evergreen Published: 11/10/2009 B STREET HIT AND RUN After falling down the embankment next to B Street on Saturday, a man may have been hit by a passing pickup truck, Pullman Police Cmdr. Chris Tennant said. The man was walking along the elevated sidewalk on B Street, just north of California Street, when witnesses said he fell and slid down the embankment into the street, Tennant said. Witnesses then claim the man was hit by a pickup truck, which drove away after the incident. The man suffered minor injuries including a swollen knee and face, Tennant said. The man was transported to Pullman Regional Hospital as a precautionary measure. The man does not remember any of the incident, Tennant said. He said this may be because alcohol was involved. "A swollen knee and face doesn't usually affect memory," Tennant said. The police have only the witness testimony to go on, and the case is still open, he said. Witnesses said the truck in question is a silver or white truck that may have been a Ford F-150, or something similar in size or style, Tennant said. Tennant said he hopes to speak with the other side to get more details. "I would like to talk to the driver of the truck, so we can get some closure," he said. However, Tennant said he is not hopeful that the driver will call police. "It has been a day or so, and they have not called in," he said. "I don't anticipate them being forthcoming, but the case is still open." TWO CRIMES, ONE HOME One home experienced two separate crimes this weekend in Pullman. First, the tires and wheels were stolen off of Kevin Riley's vehicle late Thursday night, Tennant said. The vehicle was left in front of the house propped up on blocks, he said. There are no leads in the investigation. Tennant said this is not a common crime in Pullman. "I can't remember the last time something like this has happened," he said. On Friday, Pullman Police got a call from the same address about a strange man in their garage. The police responded and arrested a 24-year-old suspect. Because the call came from the same home, Tennant said the police originally suspected the two crimes were connected. However, the suspect denied any connection to the stolen tires. The suspect said he was looking for somewhere to sleep while he was down from Spokane because it was raining outside, Tennant said. Tennant said Heidt was arrested for second-degree burglary and for an outstanding warrant from another county. As of now, the police have no connection between the two crimes except that they both occurred at the same location, Tennant said. The investigation of the tire thefts is still open, he said.
