The Washington State Gambling Commission told the Crimson Crew, a group of five students enrolled in Sport Management 489, that it is illegal to charge any kind of a fee to play poker unless they have a fundraising license, which costs $400. The registration fee for the tournament is $10, and all proceeds go toward the club. The top three winners will take home Visa Gift Cards with values of $25, $50 and $100. “The tournament will last about four to five hours, and we’re restricting the number players from 80 to about 30 because of the location change,” said Wes Pinard, a Crimson Crew administrator and senior sports management major. |
