Center aims for med school
Chris Prummer balances being a football player while planning to attend med school after he graduates from WSU.

For the WSU football team, this season was kind of a letdown. With only one win, and a loss to the Huskies in the all-important Apple Cup, the team didn’t play as well as they would have liked. However, redshirt junior center Chris Prummer proved to be quite the bright spot for the team.

Prummer wasn’t always a starter, but he was always a hard worker for the football team and took his academics seriously. After maintaining a 3.88 cumulative GPA, Prummer was able to make the 2009 Pac-10 All-Academic Team.

“Its great to be recognized on the All-Academic Team,” Prummer said. “I think I might have been able to be on it before, but I didn’t play enough. It makes my parents happy.” Being a zoology major, Prummer has the ultimate goal of going to med school to become a surgeon in either cardiology or orthopedics. Considering he is an upperclassmen and has been able to find a way to be so successful in balancing school with football, Prummer has a lot of advice for fellow students to be successful.

“You have to have the ability to not sleep very much and making the best of your study time,” Prummer said. “Doing well at the beginning of the semester makes the end of the semester a lot easier. Also, prepare more than you think you need to for exams.” Outside of school, Prummer is very busy with his major and all of the time it takes. However, when he has free time, Prummer likes to stay active in the great outdoors.

“I like to snowboard and basically do anything outside,” Prummer said. “I also love to ride motorcycles.” Prummer is winding down on his stay at WSU, as he has about half a year of school to complete his degree. Because Prummer loves football and the idea of being a surgeon, he looks up to one particular NFL player that was very successful.

“Dan Doornink played here and then went to the NFL (for eight seasons) and was in med school at the same time,” Prummer said. “You can say I look up to him.”
