Women’s basketball knocks off MSU, falls to Portland
WSU came from behind to beat the Bobcats in Montana but couldn’t fend off the Pilots at Friel Court.

The WSU women’s basketball team dropped a home game to the Portland Pilots 79-53 on Sunday after a 73-61 come-from-behind victory over the Montana State in Bozeman, Mont.

The Pilots (7-3) came to Pullman riding a three-game winning streak after knocking off Idaho 75-71 on Saturday night.

“I was really disappointed after coming off of a win,” Head Coach June Daugherty. “I feel bad for the fans who came to the game because we didn’t compete for 40 minutes. I know we learned a lot from a game like this.” The Cougars were outplayed in almost every statistic. The Cougars shot 19-64 from the field, 3-20 from behind the 3-point line and 12-19 from the free throw line. The Pilots shot 32-61 from the field, 5-10 from behind the 3-point line and 10-12 from the free throw line. Portland had 44 points in the paint compared to WSU’s 26 points. The Pilots also out-rebounded the Cougars 43-35 and had 19 points off turnovers, compared to 4 points off turnovers for WSU.

Sophomore guard Jazmine Perkins and freshman guard KiKi Moore scored 10 points each. Moore has had nine-straight games in double digits, the longest streak by a freshman to start a career in WSU history. Sophomore guard/forward Rosie Tarnowski led the team in rebounds for the second-straight game with seven.

The Cougars started the two-game weekend with a victory over the Bobcats on Friday night.

Five Cougars scored in double figures. Perkins and freshman center Carly Noyes each contributed 16 points for WSU. Sophomore guard April Cook, redshirt freshman guard Katie Grad and Moore all contributed 10 points each in the victory. Moore also had five steals into the contest. Moore came into the week ranked fourth in the country in steals at 4.4 per game. Tarnowski pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds for the Cougars.
