Up All Night features ‘90s favorites Throwback Up All Night brings back memorable highlights of the ‘90s for student attendees. The Daily Evergreen Tie-dyed T-shirts, snap bracelets and Beanie Babies helped bring students back to their childhoods during Friday’s Up All Night event with a ‘90s throwback theme. Students crowded onto the second floor of the CUB for the Student Entertainment Board-sponsored event. A line for the tie-dye activity stretched across the Senior Ballroom. “It seems like a lot of people are really interested in it,” sophomore communication major Stephany May said as she assisted participants. “They’re having fun. A lot of people haven’t done it before, so it’s kind of cool.” Students lined either side of a table and squirted dyes on their T-shirts over aluminum tubs. Attendees could twist their T-shirt to make a swirl design or tie it up with rubber bands to create a clench pattern. “I haven’t done this since fourth grade, so it’s fun,” freshman science major Rachel Miller said. “My mom wouldn’t let me because I stained my clothes when I did it last.” Near the room’s entrance, students sat at a table decorating snap bracelets with Pip-Squeaks glitter in colors such as gold, silver, aqua green and blue. In the back corner of the Senior Ballroom, students had tattoos airbrushed onto them with stencils. Junior psychology major Kayla North got a tattoo on her wrist. She said she enjoyed the event but was upset that the ‘90s cover band that was performing, The Suits, refused to play music from N’Sync, Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls. After the band finished playing, comedian Andy Gross performed. In the Junior Ballroom, they played TV shows from the ‘90s, such as “Kenan & Kel.” “We talked to some of our committee members and asked them what their favorite thing to watch after school,” said Stephanie Caron, Up All Night programmer and senior communication major. “’Rocko’s Modern Life’ was a big one.” At 9:30 p.m., students played '90s-themed “Jeopardy,’ followed by “Don’t Forget the Lyrics.” For each game, contestants were chosen from the crowd to compete for DVDs of TV shows from the ‘90s. Junior communication major Conrad Wrobel was a contestant in “Don’t Forget the Lyrics.” “I think it would have been cool if there were more songs so more people could have done that particular one,” he said. “I saw a lot of people still raising their hands (after it was over). There’s so much to do, but the events that everyone wants to do are too short. It would have been really cool if everyone had gotten to do a couple of songs up there.” |
