Gov. Chris Gregoire signed a bill Monday to create a marketing campaign for lottery games that will fund student financial aid.
About 10 days after the end of the Legislature’s special session, Gregoire signed Senate Bill 6409, also known as the “Opportunity Pathways” bill.
According to a WSU news release, the bill will direct lottery proceeds toward early childhood education and higher education. The lottery could collect as much as $15 million more next year than this year due to the higher education marketing campaign, according to the release.
Effective July 1, lottery officials will initiate a summer campaign centered on funding higher education. Every lottery ticket purchased for in-state games will help fund programs such as the State Need Grant for college students.
