The WSU women’s basketball team will play its final home game tonight against the Idaho Vandals.

The last time the Cougars played Idaho, the Vandals took an 89-72 overtime win at Moscow on Dec. 5, 2001.

“Last year, it left a bad taste in our mouths,” WSU guard Jessica Perry said.

The Vandals come in with a record of 8-15, 7-7 in the Big West.

“We aren’t going to overlook them,” Perry said.

Alyssa Erickson, averaging 12.6 points per game, heads a list of four Vandals who are averaging double digits in points. The others include Heather Thoelke (12.4), Keisha Moore (11.9) and Autumn Fielding (11.8). Moore leads the team in rebounding, averaging 8.1 per game.

“I hope the rival game with Idaho will spur us for the rival game against Washington,” WSU coach Sherri Murrell said. “Hopefully, we will have a lot of people come out to support the seniors.

“We have to switch gears for a non-conference game, but one of our motivations is that we have not won a non-conference game all year,” she said. “That is our motivation to win and go into Washington with a good feeling.”

The Cougars then will travel to Seattle and play the Huskies on Saturday.
